She previously explained her decision not to openly discuss her personal life during an interview with Glamour magazine. Washington was once engaged to actor David Moscow, but the pair split in 2007.

"I've had earlier times in my career when I did talk about [my personal life]. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine. But I couldn't just turn around and say, 'I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.' So I just thought, 'OK, no more,'" she told Glamour.

"I'm walking around in the world with my ring. And when people say congratulations, I say thank you," she continued. "But I'm going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold."

In February, she celebrated a star-studded baby shower at the home of her hit show's creator, Shonda Rhimes.

Approximately 50 guests gathered at the lavish Hancock Park property and sipped on lemonade and champagne. Among the guests was actress Jane Fonda as well as Washington's co-stars Darby Stanchfield and Katie Lowes, according to Daily Mail U.K.

"She felt so loved she didn't want the day to end," a source told E! News of the actress. "She gave Shonda a huge hug and kiss before thanking her and leaving with her mom."
