Kindle Fire and iPad 2 Compete on Cyber Monday After Setting Records on Black Friday

The Amazon Kindle Fire tablet made an impressive debut during its first Black Friday joining the rest of Amazon's Kindle products.

“Black Friday was the best ever for the Kindle family customers purchased (four times) as many Kindle devices as they did last Black Friday – and last year was a great year,” said Dave Limp, vice president for Amazon’s Kindle division, in a recent news release.

Apple also saw one of its best Black Fridays ever selling four times the company’s normal volume of products thanks to devices such as the iPod, MacBook line and the market’s leading tablet, the iPad 2.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster spent Black Friday inside an Apple store location and ended up witnessing something amazing for the company.

In eight hours, an average of 14.8 iPads were bought an hour outdoing last year’s 8.8 units an hour, according to Munster.

Sales on Mac computers rose as well jumping to 10.1 an hour from 8.2 an hour last year.

Apple has sold more than 28.7 million iPads since the tablet’s launch in 2010.

This number includes 11.2 million units in the July to September quarter.

Apple is expected to sell 13.5 million iPads and 5.2 million Macs this quarter, according to Munster.

Amazon is expected to sell up to 5 million Kindle Fire Tablets with Barnes and Noble moving around 3 million units of its Nook tablet.

With Cyber Monday arriving, there is no doubt that both the iPad and the Kindle Fire will be two of the most sold items on what is arguably the year’s second biggest shopping day.

Amazon also holds an advantage since it runs one of the Internet’s most popular shopping sites.

The Kindle Fire currently retails on Amazon.com for $199.99 and the 16 GB iPad 2 goes for around $530.
