Larry King Leaves CNN Permanently

Larry King will end his professional relationship of over 25 years with CNN. He last appeared on CNN as the host of one of his quarterly specials just a few months ago.

Slightly over a year ago, King gave up his nightly talk show "Larry King Live," which he had hosted for 25 years. Larry King Live was replaced by "Piers Morgan Tonight."

Though King ended his show, for the past 14 months he has been hosting CNN specials, the most recent of which "A Larry King Special: Dinner with the Kings" aired in December 2011. And the TV Newser reports that there were more specials left on King's contract, and "he had two new specials in the pipeline before the decision was made to end them."

Despite the contract CNN issued a statement earlier today saying that Larry King and the network "mutually agreed" to end the specials and part ways.

The Los Angeles Times reports that in today's statement CNN said they had "the greatest respect for Larry" and they sent him off wishing him "the best of luck with his new endeavors."

Larry King, now age 78, had a full career with CNN, including more than 50,000 interviews. And CNN credits King as changing "not only the landscape of cable television, but television news in general," adding that King "became a domineering force in primetime news programming."

It is unclear what the future holds for Larry King. About month ago King's lawyer, Bert Fields, told The Wrap that King was involved in talks about starting an online project with Mexican Billionaire Carlos Slim.

King's distant future is even more unpredictable for, as he said in his last CNN special, "[After death] I want to be frozen on the hope that they'll find whatever I died of and bring me back."
