'Lethal Weapon 5' Spoilers News: Mel Gibson And Danny Glover To Reprise Roles

"Lethal Weapon 5" could be a possibility after reports that the original team behind the hit action-comedy is looking to make one final installment. This is alongside rumors that Warner Bros. is looking to do a fresh reboot of the franchise instead of one final ride for Mel Gibson and Danny Glover's beloved characters.

According to Deadline, Gibson and Glover alongside director Richard Donner are potentially huddling up for another go at the buddy cop flick. The 87-year-old director would reportedly helm the film and Channing Gibson (Lethal Weapon 4) would script. Everyone seems to be on board with the plan and is now exploring the possibility of a fifth installment.

Should "Lethal Weapon 5" move forward however, it must mean that Warner Bros. is also on board given that it was the studio that has brought all four films to audiences. That is still to be seen however, as the studio is rumored to be looking for a fresh reboot rather than one final installment.

The series follows the exploits of LAPD homicide cop Roger Murtaugh (Glover) who is partnered with another cop who was transferred over from the narc squad Martin Riggs (Gibson). Together with their very different ideas about policing, they take down criminals all the while constantly relying on each other for their lives.

The first film was released back in 1987 when Warner Bros. was still under the Bob Daly, Terry Semel regime with the fourth and final film being released nearly two decades ago in 1998. Together, all four films raked in $955.2 million worldwide and even spawned a TV series.

While "Lethal Weapon 5" might sound for great for the franchise, the "Lethal Weapon" TV series carrying its legacy quite well even without the original cast and crew. Whether a new film throws a wrench into the mix or not is still to be seen however, as none of the people involved had come out with statement.
