Manny Pacquiao Wants Fight With Floyd Mayweather, Amir Khan Thinks Pacquiao is Beyond Prime
Manny Pacquiao is preparing for his bout against Chris Algieri later this month but shadowing their fight is the inevitable topic of Pacquiao taking on Floyd Mayweather Jr. While it has not been uncommon to mention the alleged "super fight" whenever the names Pacquiao and Mayweather are involved, it's already been years and there's still no guarantee that the fight will actually take place.
Pacquiao however, has said that he's ready to make the bout happen.
"I do have one specific goal and that is to give the boxing fans the fight they have always asked for. I want that fight [with Mayweather] too," Pacquiao said.
While both parties have expressed their intentions to make the fight happen, a number of factors make arranging the fight difficult. Pacquiao is currently signed with HBO while Mayweather is under Showtime.
"I believe in good faith negotiations could produce the fight. But it is impossible to negotiate when you are the only one sitting at the table," he added. "Two fighters who want to fight each other have never been kept from fighting each other."
Still, even if Pacquiao and Mayweather secure a fight with each other, it might be a difficult endeavor for Pacquiao considering his age. Amir Khan has said that the former is already past his prime and age and that distractions are beginning to get the better of him.
"The relentlessness, power, and explosiveness are all gone with Pacquiao and he's not like he used to be," Khan said. "The power he had when he knocked out the likes of Ricky Hatton, you don't see that now because he's boxing more than he used to."
