Marvel TV Postpones The Release Of 'The Punisher'
Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb has recently spoken about the decision to postpone the premiere its Netflix series "The Punisher." The series was expected to released by mid-October however, the shooting incident that occurred in Las Vegas prompted the production committee to not only cancel the series' Comic-Con panel but also delay its premiere.
Speaking to Inverse, Loeb affirmed that their decision to postpone the show's premiere was due to the incident in Las Vegas. "This was a decision that we made specifically because it was a week after a horrible, horrible incident," he explained.
The incident, which occurred on the night of Oct. 1, resulted in the deaths of 59 people including the shooter and injured 546 more. It still remains to be the deadliest mass shooting incident in US history.
The decision to postpone "The Punisher" has caused some to worry that the violent nature of the series will be toned down due to the issue of gun violence. However, Loeb assured fans that the circumstances of the delay have not altered the show in any way.
Loeb added that the decision to delay the series was a hard decision for everyone at Marvel TV and Netflix. "This was a decision that we made specifically because it was a week after a horrible, horrible incident," he explained.
Instead of the previously planned Oct. premiere, the series will instead debut next month. However, with every day that goes by without the show, speculation regarding its depiction of protagonist Frank Castle continues.
While most fans know the gun-toting character as serious, grounded, and gritty, there are also those who would like to see a non-serious, even weird version of Castle. There are indeed versions of the character when he's considerably less violent and even comical at times. Should Loeb and the people at Marvel decide to tone down the series, violence, they will probably have a few limited series to back up their actions against any possible fan backlash.
Netflix's "The Punisher" is set to premiere on Nov. 17.
