Marvel's 'Cloak and Dagger' TV Show Coming to ABC's Freeform
The small screen side of Marvel Studio's shared superhero universe is continuing to expand in size. First there was "Agents of SHIELD" which debuted on ABC in 2013 followed by "Agent Carter." ABC is also set to make a SHIELD spinoff called "Marvel's Most Wanted." Netflix, on their part, is also cultivating its slice of the universe with "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" and with the upcoming offerings like "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist." The four titular heroes will later on be featured in the superhero mashup, "The Defenders."
But if that won't be enough to satiate the appetite of fans for anything superpowered, Marvel TV has just announced that it will be bringing into the airwaves an adaptation of its fictional comic book superhero duo, Cloak and Dagger.
According to Variety, the ABC-subsidiary network, Freeform, has given a straight-to-series order to "Marvel's Cloak and Dagger." An interesting combination of crime-fighting and love story, Cloak and Dagger follows the exploits of Tyrone Johnson aka Cloak and Tandy Bowen as Dagger.

"The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging," the series breakdown from the media outlet reads.
Variety added that the C&D story is geared towards "young adult" audiences. Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family, has found its success in bringing shows aimed for younger-skewing demography (ages 14-34) like "Pretty Little Liars," which is now advancing to Season 7, and "Shadowhunters," which has also been renewed for a second installment.
Marvel TV and ABC will be co-producing the series.
