Matthew West Releases 'One Last Christmas'

While there are emerging Christian artists recording Christmas songs this year, there is one that truly stands out: "One Last Christmas" by Matthew West.

West's new Christmas song is more impacting rather than cheery for the holiday season. It is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

The song is a continuation of his latest album The Story of Your Life, an album that emerged while he was isolated in a cabin. There, he was trying to make a sense of the thousands of letters written by his fans who shared the most intimate stories of their lives.

This unique album tackles an array of pains, problems, and miracles that a lot of people have faced around the world. There is at least one song that appeals to anyone at a personal level.

"One Last Christmas" is the Christmas extension to this touching album. It not only reaches us emotionally but it also manifests the need for action and miracles this year.

The song is based on the true story of Dax Locke, who passed away from Leukemia at the age of two just last year.

When the doctors said he wouldn't make it for one last Christmas, the whole community in Washington, Ill., was determined that he would see Christmas so they decided to put up the decorations early. Dax did make it to see one last Christmas. He passed away on Dec. 30, 2009.

West was inspired to write a song about this particular story because he received letters from different people whose lives have been impacted by Dax.

Through the song, he hopes to help Dax's family by raising $1.6 million for St. Luke's Hospital, which is the total cost to run the hospital for one day.

On his website the Grammy nominated artist writes, "This Christmas, it is on my heart to join forces with the Locke family, and help them in their cause. I would like to encourage you to join us in raising money that will go to an amazing cause in St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital that cares for so many children each year."
