McDonald's Boxed Meals Debut, Value Meal Feeds 2

McDonalds is offering a two-person box meal package called the Blitz Box in light of the new football season, which started this month.

The Blitz Box is much like the box found at Kentucky Fried Chicken, but instead of chicken, customers can enjoy McDonald's burgers, fries, and chicken nuggets.

More specifically, the box contains two Quarter Pounders, two medium French fries and 20 Nuggets and is priced at $14.99, according to Burger Business.

A company spokesperson said that the fast food restaurant is testing the Blitz Box in Kansas City, Missouri where it is only a local promotion, according to the Huffington Post.

However, there is a good chance that the Blitz Box could expand in other markets and possibly nationwide at some point.

The Blitz Box is not the first time McDonalds has experimented with "bundled" meals. Back in March 2010, McDonalds introduced a Family Boxed Meal in Australia. The multi-person Dinner Box offered various combinations of cheeseburgers, Big Macs and Quarter Pounders with fries and nuggets.

Fast food restaurants have been forced to experiment with new menu offerings in order to keep up with today's health-conscious and frugal market, and McDonalds has already honored the trend.

Last year, McDonald's Happy Meals were tweaked so that the portion of French fries was reduced by more than half and apples were added to the popular meal.

Also, restaurants such as Taco Bell are offering unusual items to attract customers, such as the Waffle Taco, which is coming to 100 Taco Bells across the U.S. this year. This dish consists of an upturned, curved waffle filled with scrambled eggs and sausage. It is served with a side of syrup.

As for other unusual offerings similar to the waffle taco, Burger King debuted the bacon sundae in 2011. The treat boasts vanilla ice cream alongside a strip of bacon, drizzled in chocolate and caramel.

Starbucks, Sonic, Dairy Queen are also adhering to the latest trends- each offers "Happy Hour" specials on drinks and snacks that appeal to customers in late afternoons.
