Mega Millions Mess: Winner Changes Story

The Mega Millions record jackpot of $656 million has turned into what some are calling a mega mess that may never get resolved. Despite the lack of answers, one message appeared clear on Tuesday: not all office pools involve a party on deck.

Three winners were announced Saturday, following one of the nation's biggest record jackpot drawings. While one woman in Maryland came forward to declare herself the winner, winners in both Kentucky and Illinois have remained calmly quiet, which now appears like the much smoother move.

Controversy was quick to break out as soon as Mirlande Wilson, 37 announced that she had a winning ticket. However, Wilson, who is a McDonald's employee, is being accused of cheating as fellow co-workers claim that the winning ticket was part of an office pool.

To make matters worse, it has not been confirmed that Wilson held the winning ticket and the truth may never be revealed. According to Maryland state law, lottery winners are not required to disclose their identity. With no ticket to show, The Inquisitr has called a fake.

"The McDonald's worker is from Maryland, and state lottery communications director Carole Everett basically said the story doesn't hold water," the news site reported.

Wilson herself even stated that she was unsure whether or not she had won.

"I don't know if I won. Some of the numbers were familiar. I recognized some of [them],'' she told the NY Post. "I don't know why people are saying differently. I'm going to go to the lottery office [today]. I bought some tickets separately."

Her statement is a change of tune after she had already declared excitedly told friends, neighbors, and even some co-workers that she had won. Wilson also claimed that the ticket in question was not part of the office pool that she admits to being a part of, but bought separately with a different friend.
