Update - 11:00 p.m. ET - Winning Numbers for June 3, 2016 are 32, 71, 54, 66, 65. The Megaball is 10. Megaplier is 3x.
With no winners for the Mega Millions Megaplier 5X draw last Tuesday, bettors now have the chance to win $251 million ($162 million cash option) for the draw on Friday, June 3.
On its website, Mega Millions said the game continues to be exciting because the jackpot prize is still growing with no one getting it in the past draws. During the draw last Tuesday night, no one got the right combination of the 9, 31, 34, 41 and 49 white balls and the Mega Ball 8.
The money at stake climbed from $235 million to $251 million, which according to Mega Millions, is one of the biggest jackpots for the lottery game since it began in 1996. It has accumulated since Michael Burkett won the $157 million jackpot on March 8.
Even though there was no winner for the jackpot prize last Tuesday, two individuals won $1 million each. The tickets were said to have been sold in Texas and Georgia. Aside from this, there were also more than two million ticket purchasers who won amounts ranging from $1 to $5,000.
Prizes that people can get in return are already huge considering that bettors only need to pay $1 for a ticket for every play, revealed the mechanics of the lottery. Once a player buys a ticket, he or she will need to pick six number from two separate groups. Five of these (white) are from 1 to 75 while the Mega Ball is any number from 1 to 15.
There is also the EasyPick option, where the number combinations are electronically selected for you. A winner is declared if all numbers are drawn on the day you placed your bet. Draws happen every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m.
The money at stake for every Mega Millions draw is huge. It usually starts at $15 million, growing by an average of $5 million every succeeding draw when there is still no winner. Lucky individuals whose number got drawn will be paid with an "immediate" amount and 29 annual payments.
Mega Millions added that winners were previously paid in equal instalments but feedback from the lucky individuals prompted them to change this. "Players expressed concern that the cost of living would be increasing while their payments were not," read the Mega Millions mechanics for the play.
It's easy to place a bet for the Mega Millions lottery since it is available in the U.S. Residents from the U.s. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia can also play the game, Mega Millions added.
