Formula One great Michael Schumacher has been out of the spotlight for years. He's been retired, but not happily. After a tragic skiing accident in the French Alps that almost killed him, little has been reported about the condition of the German racing star.
This week is the second anniversary of that fateful day, but unlike most anniversaries, there is almost zero information being provided by his family or his manager, Sabine Kehm. It appears that the most important things for them right now are privacy and silence.
Even during Schumacher's days as the best Formula One racer in the world, he wasn't really keen on advertising and exposing himself, never interested in putting himself in the limelight. His media lawyer, Felix Damm, emphasizes that the public does not have to know and does not have the right to demand information about Schumacher.

Even before the accident and upon his retirement, he has ceased to become a public figure and everyone should respect his family's decision to keep silent on his condition.
But everything isn't really kept in total mystery. Some of the basic details of the accident are known to the media. For one, it happened on Dec.19, 2013, while he was vacationing with friends and family in the French Alps. After the accident, he was immediately airlifted to the Grenoble Hospital, where first responders said that he had a severe head injury with coma upon arriving at the facility. He then was subjected to a two-hour operation intended to reduce the swelling on his brain. In September of last year, he was transferred from the Lausanne Hospital, where the surgery took place, to his home in Lake Geneva.
However, that's basically it. There's been little information given the rest of the way and up until now. It is safe to assume that he is currently recovering and in rehabilitation. The only thing one can think about and hope for is that he's making progress.
