Michelle Obama Talks Preparing Her Kids for College
Michelle Obama, the first lady of the United States, recently spoke up about preparing her two daughters for college.
Michelle and president Barack Obama have two daughters; Sasha, 12 and Malia, 15. Mrs. Obama recently spoke up about the rules she has set to prepare her children for higher education.
"I give them as long a leash as they can handle. What I tell my kids is, I'm preparing you for college and for life," she told Parade magazine recently. "So, having independence, knowing how to set your own boundaries, figuring out how to make that balance. We still have screen time rules."

Still, the first lady admitted that she is not moving too quickly in the college search for her daughter.
"You know, I am really trying to tone that way down," she told Parade. "Because kids are under unreasonable pressure, and it can destroy a high school experience."
However the president is already thinking about ways to dissuade his girls from getting unnecessary body art.
"What we've said to the girls is, 'If you guys ever decided you're going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo in the same place. And we'll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo,'" Obama told told "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie last April. "And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that's a good way to rebel."
The Obamas have spoken about raising their children in the past, with Mrs. Obama even revealing that she gives her daughters some freedom while monitoring their phone usage.
"I give my daughter at this age, I give her a long rope," Mrs. Obama said of daughter Malia in a "Nightline" interview last year. "And there is monitoring because we have rules but monitoring may be you never know when I'm going to walk into your room and I'm going to ask you 'who are you talking to and are you talking about school work?'"
