MLB Trade Rumors 2016: Interest Around Jimmy Rollins Is Building

A lot of people look at this season as already a stretch for veteran infielder and Phillies great Jimmy Rollins, but it looks like several teams are actually considering him in second base. This report is as surprising as it gets since Rollins himself even contemplated on hanging up those baseball gloves for good.

The report of multiple interests in Rollins came from MLB insider Ken Rosenthal for FOX Sports, revealing that there were more than a couple of MLB clubs that inquired about getting Rollins and having him transition to second base. This is an interesting rumor considering that all throughout his career, he never started a game in any other position except for shortstop. He made a name for himself in that field position.

The 16-year pro and four-time winner of the Gold Glove played for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, where he had a .983 fielding percentage. The 37-year-old, though, hit a career low of .224 with just 13 home runs and 41 RBIs. While he got the playing time he wanted with the Dodgers last year, the team eventually decided to go with Corey Seager at the season's end and in the playoffs, the purpose of which is to obviously give the young player some exposure.

The same report claimed that Rollins is actually quite interested in and open with the thought of playing another position even if he does not have experience over it. However, he still is waiting for opportunities to come in that will focus on him playing shortstop.

One potential destination is the Los Angeles Angels — a team looking to upgrade at second base, although they are more likely to re-sign current second baseman Howie Kendrick. But it should be very interesting if both players end up playing for the same team since Kendrick was Rollins' double-play partner during a stint with the Dodgers.
