MLB Trade Rumors: Should Cardinals Pursue Charlie Blackmon?

There is some buzz about the St. Louis Cardinals hoping to land Charlie Blackmon along with Corey Dickerson from the Colorado Rockies. While it makes perfect sense that the team is pursuing both outfielders, the Rockies may not be that interested in what Cardinals can offer in return.

When the Cardinals unloaded Jason Heyward to Chicago during the offseason, they eventually realized they needed another outfielder to fill in the void. As for the Rockies, there is some truth to the rumors that they're trying to unload one of the three outfielders they currently have in their roster, but it certainly will not be Carlos Gonzalez. It's not about believing in what he can do but it's more on the notion that Colorado believes "CarGo" is worth more than what other teams are trying to offer. The 30-year-old may be the most experienced of the three, but is also the most prone to injuries.

Why the Cardinals should go for Blackmon?

The 29-year-old Blackmon makes a lot of sense for the Cardinals simply because he's had a great season. He batted .287/.347/.450, while adding 17 homers and 58 RBIs for Colorado. Aside from that, his versatility makes him a perfect candidate for any team who is looking for a well-rounded and two-way player who can immediately contribute. Blackmon stole 43 bases last season as can also be a very good left-handed complement in the outfield.

Perhaps Dickerson's strongest case is the fact that he's three years younger than Blackmon. At 26, he has a lot of future ahead of him. The left fielder was actually drafted by the Rockies in 2009, but he declined to sign. He would do so a year later.

Just like Blackmon, he is bats left-handed and produced .304/.333
