According to the director-producer Jose Padilha and executive producer Eric Newman, the clips were important in authenticating their portrayal of Pablo Escobar's life. During their interview with Variety, they explained that preparing for the series took a lot of research.

Newman said, "We really wanted to embrace the Colombian contribution to bringing down Escobar. They did incredibly brave things and died at an alarming rate. The journalists who covered the story were killed at a rate that, as a society, we wouldn't know what to do with."

Padilha also stated that he was in shock when he learned about the happenings in Colombia at that time. He said that many people also found it hard to believe Escobar's story.

In addition, they revealed that Moura also did his own research to prepare for the role of Escobar. Padilha explained that Moura did not know how to speak Spanish before pursuing the role of Escobar.

He said, "You know what he did? Three months before we even scouted Colombia, [he] went to Medellin on his own, enlisted into a university where Pablo Escobar went and stayed there speaking Spanish for three months. When we got there, he knew how to speak Spanish; that's what it takes."

There has yet to be any details regarding the upcoming season of "Narcos."
