'Narcos' Season 4 Cast News: Michael Peña and Diego Luna to Star in 2018-Pegged Season

"Narcos" has tapped two familiar names to star in the upcoming fourth season, which will also see a location change.

According to Variety, Michael Peña and Diego Luna will be portraying undisclosed roles in the next season of the Netflix original series. Peña is known for his work in many films, including 2004's Academy Award-winning "Crash" and the Marvel superhero film "Ant-Man." He will next appear in "A Wrinkle in Time." Luna, on the other hand, has starred in "Y Tu Mama Tambien," "Flatliners," and perhaps most notably, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

Production has also been moved to Mexico City after three straight seasons of being set and shot in Colombia. The change in location accompanies the series' shift in storyline, with season 4 poised to focus on Mexico's Guadalajara cartel. Netflix released a teaser for the upcoming season, which also features the casting news and release period.

With Peña and Luna set as the new stars of the show, fans have come to wonder whether Pedro Pascal will be reprising his role as Agent Javier Peña. Pascal has played the character for three seasons, and things left off in a blurry place with him. However, while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Eric Newman refused to confirm that Pascal would not appear at all.

"I'm confirming that it's not about him," Newman said. He also revealed that fans can look forward to more new faces in the fourth season, though he was also optimistic about some unexpected things ahead.

"It's almost an entirely new group with some overlap and hopefully a few surprises," he said.

The first two seasons focused on the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, while season 3 was all about the Cali Cartel. While season 3 ended with the story already in the 1990s, season 4 is going to set the clock back.

"The origins of the Guadalajara cartel are in the late 1970s and early 1980s, so 'Narcos' is going back in time," Newman teased.

"Narcos" season 4 will premiere in 2018.
