'Nashville' season 4: Rayna and Deacon's romance in the limelight

"Nashville" is set to return this week for its fourth season, and the premiere episode will focus on Rayna and Deacon's romance.

Nashville season 4 will pick up where the last season left off, and fans will finally find out who died during the liver transplant. It could have been Deacon (Charles Esten) or his sister, but viewers will only know for sure when Nashville returns, according to Entertainment Weekly (EW).

"Rayna's love life is going to become very clear within the first five minutes of the first episode," EW quotes Nashville star Connie Britton.

Although Britton has not revealed if Rayna and Deacon would end up getting hitched, she did confirm that Nashville season 4 will begin a month after the hospital scene happened during the last episode of season 3, the report details.

Aside from that, Britton said Rayna's career will take off and that she will invest more time and energy into her personal life. The beginning of the fourth season will clearly highlight the importance of Rayna's choice and she will be more inspired to improve Highway 65.

Showrunner Dee Johnson teased that an indie rocker (Riley Smith) will join Rayna's label, but his arrival will only result in "complications." Johnson also talked about the Hayden Panettiere's character Juliette Barnes, who is also a country diva, who has reclaimed her position in the industry. The story will show how Barnes' life looks great from the outside but is very different on the inside, the report relays.

Season 4 will also reveal if Scarlett and Gunnar will still get back together, despite her developing romance with Dr. Caleb Rand. In the last season, the two nearly kissed and the scene ended there. Fans will find out if Scarlett is willing to leave her newfound romance and run back toward Gunnar, Fashion N Style reports.

Aside from that, Zoey Dalton (Chaley Rose) will come back for at least one episode in Nashville season 4. Viewers will see if Zoey will get in the way of Scarlett and Gunnar's rekindled romance.

The next installment will also tackle what happens after Will Lexington (Chris Carmack) publicly came out as gay. He will now face the consequence of what he did and will find out if his fans will still stand by him after he revealed the truth about himself.

Nashville will return for its fourth season on Sept. 23 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
