National Hamburger Day Today, Score Freebies and Deals on Burgers

National Hamburger Day arrives on May 28 and people across the country are celebrating this year.

The holiday commemorates the backyard cookout staple made from a ground beef patty and a bun. An American classic, the hamburger can be served with a variety of different toppings, including cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mustard, pickled, and many other trimmings.

It comes as no surprise that hamburgers are celebrated in the U.S. -- Americans are estimated to consume about 50 billion burgers a year. Consequently, restaurants such as McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's have become fast food giants selling thousands of burgers each day.
