Netflix's 'Iron Fist' News, Update: Showrunner Named; Synopsis, Working Title, Other Details Released
After what seems to be the lack of any updates, both official and un-official, for the upcoming Netflix small screen offering, "Iron Fist," news arrived these past few days indicating that the show is not only moving forward but is also now taking shape.
According to the report from ComicBook.com, Marvel COO Joe Quesada and Marvel TV executive Jeph Loeb have dispelled the rumors that the upcoming show is being put off the table.
What's even more exciting is that the show is already filling in the roles for its crew. As revealed by the media outlet, the web streaming service has now selected a showrunner for "Iron Fist" in the person of Scott Buck.
Buck was an executive producer for Showtime's hit series "Dexter." He was also a producer on HBO's "Six Feet Under."
To further confirm the news, Marvel released an official statement regarding the pick.
"Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet," Loeb said. "We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we've found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders."
For Buck, it's the challenge to write "complex, intriguing characters" that draws him into the project.
Meanwhile, a few days after Buck was announced as the showrunner, it was reported that a working title for the show has been revealed. According to another report in Comicbook.com, production starts April 2016 with the show having "Kick" as its working title. The same report also mentioned that casting for the show has already started.
In the Marvel report, "Iron Fist" is described to feature the comic book character Daniel Rand who comes back to New York City after he'd gone missing for a few years. Upon his reappearance, he became a crime-fighter who squashes the criminal elements that are corrupting his beloved city. He is described in the report as being armed with nothing but his "incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."
Netflix's "Iron Fist" is the fourth series that is about to make up the highly-anticipated superhero mini-series, "The Defenders." The web streaming service has already released the first seasons of "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones." "Luke Cage," on the other hand, will reportedly premiere by 2016.
