New 'Pacific Rim: Uprising' Poster Featuring John Boyega Revealed
"Star Wars" actor John Boyega takes center stage in a new "Pacific Rim: Uprising" poster ahead of the film's highly anticipated debut at the New York Comic-Con next week. Boyega plays the role of Jake Pentecost, son of the late Stacker Pentecost who perished in the previous film.
A sequel to Guillermo Del Toro's "monster vs. robot" flick was never a surefire thing especially considering the fact that the film was only barely able to turn a profit. However, the film's massive popularity in China was enough to push through a second film.
Del Toro was originally meant to direct the film, however, his work in getting The Shape of Water up and running forced him to exit the director's chair. Instead, it was up to Daredevil season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight to bring the sequel to fruition.
"Pacific Rim: Uprising" is set 10 years after the events of the first film. Following humanity's victory at the Battle of the Breach, the Jaeger program has become the most powerful global defense force in human history.
However, the war clocks have once again begun ticking as the Precursors return to finish what they started. Now it is up to a new generation of Jaeger pilots to defend humanity from the Kaijus and their masters.
The debut poster shows Boyega is very drifting compatible with his own Jaeger, the Gypsy Avenger. It would be very interesting how Jaeger tech has advanced during the interim years with the actor saying that the massive mechs are "much faster" compared to the Marks 1-4 of the previous film. It would also be amazing to see what the Precursors have up their sleeves considering that they failed in their last attempt to conquer the Earth.
Along with Boyega, the film also stars Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian and Cailee Spaeny, with Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman reprising their roles as Mako Mori, Dr Newt Geiszler, and Dr Hermann Gottlieb respectively.
"Pacific Rim: Uprising" is set to be released on March 23, 2018.
