New York City Building Explosion and Collapse: Before and After Photos of East Harlem, Upper Manhattan Location (LIVE STREAM)

Two mixed-use residential and commercial buildings in East Harlem, Upper Manhattan, have collapsed, leaving a scene locals have described as "reminiscent of 9/11." Response workers were in the vicinity at the time of the collapse, but all have been accounted for, according to reports.

At press time, one person had been confirmed killed and 16 people others were reported injured as a result of the explosion, although officials have warned those numbers are likely to increase.

The collapse, which occurred around 10:20 a.m. about 50 minutes after the massive explosion at about 9.30 a.m., has knocked out all of the two buildings' apartments, a piano stores and a storefront church, which were on the first floor, according to Fox 5.

Several residents of the building and the pastor of the church have told Fox 5 that they smelled gas in their apartment on Tuesday.

The FDNY has declared the explosion a five-alarm fire.

The building, which sits between 116th and 117th St. on Park Avenue is adjacent to a Metro North track, which the MTA has shutdown until further notice.

The fire and explosion have sent glass, brick and other building material debris into the street and surrounding areas.
