Newt Gingrich Offered $1 Million to Drop Out of 2012 Race? (VIDEO)
Conservative talk show radio host Michael Savage has offered Republican frontrunner Newt Gingrich $1 million if he will drop out of the race within 72 hours of Tuesday.
Savage, 69, champions the causes of conservative politics and claims that allowing Gingrich to clinch the Republican Party’s nomination will result in a second term for the incumbent, President Barack Obama.
“His continued candidacy spells nothing but ruin for conservatives, Republicans, and all true American patriots,” reads Savage’s news Website.
Savage also outlines some of the reasons he feels that Gingrich cannot defeat Obama in an election, and thus will not support him.
The first thing Savage attacks is Gingrich’s controversial record.
Though the former Speaker of the House has run as a Republican since he became a politician, some of his stances could be considered progressive by a wide swath of right-wing voters.
“Gingrich failed to deliver on his so-called contract with America,” which promised more fiscal responsibility, transparency, and conservative legislature on the part of Congress, Savage’s website reads.
Savage also pounced on Gingrich’s ad on global warming he did with former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. The two politicians collaborated to validate global warming, but the radio host called it a “false theory.”
After that, talk show host weighs in on the former historian’s moral failings.
Gingrich’s two divorces and controversial business dealings with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - or as Savage calls them, “the most corrupt financial institutions in history,” - make the GOP frontrunner “unelectable.”
Savage, whose show commands up to 10 million listeners per week, isn’t alone in his perspective about Gingrich.
Joining him is conservative Mormon talk show host Glenn Beck, whose show garners 9 million listeners a week.
Beck has said, “I might consider Ron Paul as a third-party (candidate),” and that Newt Gingrich has “championed progressive ideas on the national level.”
The combination of conservative viewers that listen to both talk show hosts’ programs could make a considerable dent in Gingrich’s lead over the second place candidate, Mitt Romney, according to polls.
Where Savage considers Mitt Romney to be the logical choice, as he is “the only candidate with a chance of defeating Barack Obama,” Beck disagrees, deeming Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, or even Ron Paul a better potential president.
According to the Website, Savage will announce his offer Tuesday and, as long as Gingrich abides by all the terms he sets forth and discontinues his candidacy, he will be awarded $1 million.
“I say take the money… and don’t run,” Savage says.
