Nexus 5 Release Date Nears, Company to Launch New Nexus 4 (2013) Instead?
With the Nexus 5 release date just around the corner, a new report has emerged that points to LG launching an updated version of the Nexus 4 instead.
The company would do this in order to follow in the footsteps of the recently released Nexus 7 successor that kept the same name and size as the previous version, according to a report from Tutto Android.
The publication closely examined the recently leaked images of the mysterious Nexus 4-like handset running Android 4.4, KitKat.

When these pictures surfaced earlier this week, they were originally believed to have been of the Nexus 4, but upon further examination, some differences could be seen on the device.
The camera on the smartphone in the images is not in the same place that it's in on the original Nexus 4. It's in a lower position on the left side of the earpiece with the proximity sensor placed on the right. The original version has the camera on the right side with the proximity sensor on the left.
This same layout for the components was also seen on the prototype that was leaked recently. This unit closely resembled the Nexus device that was spotted at the Android 4.4, KitKat statue unveiling.
The bezel on the Nexus device in the pictures also doesn't have the same chrome finish as the original Nexus 4. The corners of the device aren't as rounded either.
The fact that the codename Hammerhead appears in the images proves that there is a good chance the device is actually the Nexus 4 successor since older models also had fish names while in the development stage. The Nexus 4 was known as Mako.
The Nexus 5 will be made by LG and is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
