Nexus 7 2 Vs. iPad: Google Device Bests Apple's Retina Display

The Nexus 7 2 vs. iPad is an unlikely match up, being that they are in different price brackets and one is considered a mid-end slate, while the other is top-of-the-line.

However, the new Nexus 7 successor was recently obtained by Android Police who discovered that the smaller Asus-made device might actually have a more brilliant display than the undisputed king of the tablet market.

Yes, it's true; the new Nexus 7 comes with a 1920x1200 screen that works out to 320 ppi. This is actually more than what is found on the current Retina iPad model. Apple's device features a display that has a 2048x1536 resolution with 264 ppi. The Nexus might have a slight advantage since it's a smaller screen, but this is still an impressive feat for the reasonably priced competitor.

The site also discovered some of the specifications on the device including a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, and Android 4.3, JellyBean.

The current iPad model runs Apple's A6X chip which could still out match what is found on the Nexus 7. It also comes with a 5-megapixel camera and runs Apple's iOS 6 software soon to be upgraded to iOS 7.

The iPad features a 9.7-inch display while the Nexus 7 comes with a 7-inch screen. Google's product is also expected to beat out Apple's in the price department as it is rumored to cost between $230 and $260. The Wi-Fi only iPad model with retina retails for $399.

Both devices are impressive and matching them up is a bit unfair as Google's device has not been released yet. However, the tablet is expected to be unveiled later today. To get a first look at the device click here.
