NFL Quarterback Says He Became a Christian After Jesus Visited Him in a Dream

An accomplished rookie quarterback with the National Football League has stated that he became a Christian after Jesus visited him in a dream.

Russell Wilson, a native of Richmond, Va., who quarterbacks for the Seattle Seahawks, explained in a recent video about his religious background and spiritual decision.

"When I was a young kid, I used to always go to church. My parents used to always take me. I knew about God, but I was always playing sports. I was kind of a bad kid growing up," said Wilson.

"I had a dream that my dad passed away and that Jesus came into the room and he was basically knocking on my door saying, 'hey you need to find out more about me.' So that Sunday morning I end up going to church and that's when I got saved."

Wilson added that about six years after he had the dream and made his spiritual decision to follow Christ, his father died.

"It was that moment when I realized dreams were really real, because my dad ended up passing away six years later. I think that got me through a lot of adversity," said Wilson.

"I used to beat up kids and fight kids and do stuff all the time, but I realized God had given me so much, so many talents. I want to give Him all the glory."

Wilson's remarks were part of a religious video titled "Making of a Champion: Seattle Seahawks," which involved several coaches and players talking about their Christian beliefs.

Available online and on DVD, the nearly 15 minute long video includes testimonies from Wilson, Russell Okung, Clint Gresham, and others.

At a height of 5'11" and weighing about 204 pounds, according to WVTR, the 24-year-old Wilson is reportedly the smallest starting quarterback in the NFL today.

Despite this, in 2012 he became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to be undefeated in home games and would bring his team to the playoffs.

For the current season, the Seahawks have a record of six wins and one loss, with a recent victory against Arizona Cardinals wherein Wilson threw three touchdown passes.
