NFL Rumors 2016: Broncos Interested in Russell Okung?

The interest for ex-Seahawks offensive tackle Russell Okung is drying up fast, but the former college football star at Oklahoma State is reportedly being eyed by the Denver Broncos. While several other teams expressed interest in the offensive tackle, it looks like the Broncos are the only ones that are taking serious steps to sign him.

According to a Fox Sports report, the defending Super Bowl champs are likely to talk to him for a contract offer. Though some are surprised by this rumor, it actually makes sense for the team, according to Mike Garafolo of Fox, considering that the Broncos will need a boost in their offensive line after the departure of Ryan Harris.

What is genuinely surprising though is the fact that no one seems to be in need of the services of Okung, a player who was ranked as one of the best free agents available this offseason. Well, the Pittsburgh Steelers did show some seriousness in adding him, but they couldn't make it possible due to his stiff asking price. Multiple reports claim that Okung has been asking at least $11 million each year to anyone who expressed interest in him. Another reason why he's not getting the interest he deserves is maybe because he is representing himself. In case he runs out of options, the last resort is to re-join the Seahawks this season and weigh in his options after.

There's actually nothing wrong with his play or abilities on the field. The guy's a monster and has been that way with Seattle's offensive line since his rookie year. He's been a starter all his career but injuries kept hounding him the past couple of years.

If the Broncos indeed sign him, he may well be the designated starter at left tackle for the team, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Ryan Clady's contract with the team. The only question now is if Denver is willing to pay him the price he's asking.
