Nichole Cable Kidnapped by Kyle Dube, Man Wanted to Be 'Hero' Who Found Her
Kyle Dube wanted to be a hero, so he set up a fake Facebook account and friended 15-year-old Nichole Cable. He then lured her away from her home, kidnapped her, fully intending to "rescue" her and become a local hero; however, something went horribly wrong and Cable ended up dead.
According to the official affidavit released after Dube was indicted for kidnapping and murder, he lured Cable out to the woods at the end of her road. Dube then duct-taped her and sped away. By the time he reached his destination and opened the truck to retrieve Cable, she was dead.
Dube established the fake Facebook account under the alias Bryan Butterfield. Cable began talking to Dube through his alias and agreed to meet him at the end of her road in order to obtain marijuana, the affidavit states. Cable was not seen again, and her body was discovered in the woods just one week later. Dube was charged with her death the next day.

He allegedly told his girlfriend where he left Cable's body; she reported that information to police, who were then able to locate her body. The affidavit does not say specifically how Cable died or how she was bound, which may have led to her death. Dube confessed to getting rid of "everything" that could link him to Cable, including the young girl's clothing.
"Kyle intended to kidnap Nichole and hide her; that he would later find her and be the hero," the affidavit concludes. "On May 20, 2013, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Main Warden Service located Nichole Cable's deceased body near Gilman Falls in Old Town."
The state medical examiner is still attempting to determine a cause of death for Cable, adding more mystery to the case.
Dube was arrested the following day on a charge related to a high-speed chase with police in 2012. He was later charged with Cable's kidnapping and murder and confessed to both charges.
