Pop icon Nick Jonas explained his decision to stop wearing his purity ring, stating that he has developed his own beliefs and the relationship between physical intimacy and faith in God.

"It's important for anyone to grow," Nick told Yahoo. "The thing that was strange for me was the emphasis on my sex life at 14; it's a crazy thing. I've seen a lot of my peers struggle with media attention on things that are very personal, and that was one."

For years, Nick and his brothers Joe and Kevin, all wore the purity rings as symbols of their chastity. Kevin wore his until he married Danielle in 2009; they made the decision to wait until their wedding night to be intimate. However, Joe went public with the news that he was no longer a virgin in a Vulture essay.

"I did other stuff before then, but I was sexually active at 20. I'm glad I waited for the right person, because you look back and go, 'That girl was bats—t crazy. I'm glad I didn't go there,'" Joe added.

"I had the time outside of the public eye to develop my own belief system and figure out what is important to me and what I believe in relation to sex and God and all those kind of things you do as you grow up, and now I'm happy," Nick explained. "I'm a man and I do what men do."

Even before speaking to Yahoo, Nick was frank about his decision to remove his purity ring and engage in physical intimacy. In Sept., Nick insisted that religion and church was still incredibly important to him, but it was just "real growth" that led him to remove the ring.

"I've had an incredibly intense journey with faith and religion and my own growth," Nick told HuffPost Live. "My belief in God is still very strong and important to me as a person and I think that's all that should matter. I grew up in a church environment and still have love for the church. What's important now is my relationship with God, and that I not judge and that I not be judged."
