Oculus Touch Launch Delayed to Second Half of 2016

Oculus VR has pushed the launch date of its Oculus Touch controller accessory to the second half of 2016 due to additional changes in the features of the device.

The Oculus Touch was supposed to launch in the first half of 2016, based on the company's initial announcement during a pre-E3 2015 event. However, Oculus recently announced in a blog post that it will need more time to add improve the features of the controller, according to Gadgets 360.

"On Touch hardware, we've made significant advances in ergonomics, and we're implementing many changes that make Touch even more comfortable, reliable, and natural," Oculus said in its blog announcement. "We're also implementing changes that improve hand pose recognition."

In addition, Oculus said it is conducting a lot of pre-production runs. This will translate to the availability of more Touch hardware for developers, PC Mag reports.

The release date of the Oculus Rift, on the other hand, will push through as planned. The virtual reality (VR) headset will still be launched within the first half of the year, the report details.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey said pre-orders for the Oculus Rift will commence after New Year. He added that the company will notify the exact date when pre-orders will go live to avoid stressing out their customers.

As for the pricing of the Oculus Rift, there is still no confirmed range. Luckey hinted that it will be affordable considering the features that the device will offer, which include multiple high-end OLED motinors, advanced mechanicals, and motion tracking. There are speculations that the VR headset will sell for at least $350, the report adds.

Oculus previously announced that it will introduce "ground-breaking" content when it launches the Oculus Touch. The firm confirmed through a separate blog post that it will bundle the platformer game "Lucky's Tale" with the VR headset for free.

As of now, the exact release date for the Oculus Touch is still unconfirmed. Oculus is expected to announce it in the next few months.
