On-Demand Game Service Jump Offers Free Trial; Aims To Be The Netflix Of Indie Games

Following its launch last Tuesday, on-demand game service Jump is offering a free 14-day trial to gamers interested in checking it out. Currently offering 60 titles in its library, the service aims at becoming the video game equivalent of Netflix with an initial focus on premium indie games.

The company's founder and CEO Anthony Palma said he started the service after seeing the difficulties independent studios were having with distributing their creations.

He first realized that web technology could be utilized to help solve the problem when the WebGL JavaScript API exports started popping up in game engines two years ago. According to Palma, it was then when they saw the potential web technologies held for the future.

For just $9.99 a month, games can access a library of over 60 games from the start with 10 new titles to be added every month. And these games aren't just typical low-budget indie games. With Jump, gamers get curated experience, exposing them to some of the best independent games on the market.

According to Palma, they have three things which they look for in a game before they add to it their library. They either have to be Award-winning games, highly rated games, or runaway bestsellers. Among the titles currently available at its library include the adventure-platformer "The End Is Nigh," comedy RPG "Dungeon Rushers," and retro-platformer "Super Win The Game."

This approach benefits indie games mainly because they often get buried under a torrent of similar games or big AAA ones in other distribution platforms such as Valve's Steam. However, Palma also said that they are also looking for games at the right time of their life cycle, not necessarily on release even if the game was a massive hit during its launch.

Interested gamers can sign-up for a free two-week trial at the official Jump website.
