'Outlander' Season 2 News, Spoilers: Sam Heughan On Season 2's Biggest External Threats, Jamie's Broken Promises

In the new season of "Outlander," the popular historical drama series on Starz, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) have made their way to Paris, where they are slowly attempting to infiltrate the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Andrew Gower) and to ultimately prevent the battle of Culloden.

Two episodes in, season 2 has so far shown the couple getting thrown into the hedonistic world of French society and going through some marital troubles as a result of Jamie's brutal experience at the hands of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) back in season 1.

In a recent chat with Collider, Heughan talked about what's in store in the show's sophomore season, including the major external threats that are sure to come.

According to the "Outlander" star, while season's 1 big threat came in the form of the Red Coats, the big threat in season 2 is less obvious. Speaking of threats, Heughan cited St. Germain (Stanley Weber), who was introduced in episode 1. The character is a powerful merchant with ties to King Louis.

"He ties back to other characters that we've met before and will meet in the future, who are quite powerful and who have all along been meddling in their affairs," the actor teased. "It's very complicated, but it's politics."

Heughan also spoke about how his experience with Black Jack affects Jamie's life, as well as his integrity. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the actor said that in season 2, promises will be made and will be broken.

"Jamie and Claire's relationship is based on trust, and without giving away too many spoilers, there are many times where that bond is tested and actually broken, so, yeah, it does inform what he does," he said.

According to the actor, while Jamie is typically a man of his word, "in Season 2 that is tested and in fact you see his integrity reduced."

"Outlander" airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET on Starz.
