Over 1 Million Expected to Gather for Revival Event in Colombia

The city of Bogota, Colombia, is preparing to host over 1 million Christians who will gather Friday night for a year-end revival celebration organized by Centro Mundial de Avivamiento, or Worldwide Revival Center, the largest evangelical church in Latin America.

"Revival at the Park" is considered to be the largest event in the entire South American continent and will take place under the theme "We Are Going for More," which will culminate the end of the year with attendees engaging in a time of thanksgiving and prayer.

"It's a time to thank God for the year that is about to end, and to put in His hands the one that is about to begin," said Juliana Guzman, spokesperson for Worldwide Revival Center, to The Christian Post.

For the past seven years, hundreds of thousands have gathered for revival, healing and to commit their lives to God.

Attendees will have the opportunity to partake in worship led by the ministry's orchestra and 3,000-person choir. Additionally, the event will be simultaneously translated via live stream into six languages including English, Portuguese, German, French, Italian and Japanese, while it broadcasts live to 21 international capital cities.

Since the mega gathering's inception, attendance numbers have exceeded the event organizer's expectations. However, this will be the first time "Revival at the Park" is set to host over a million people who will gather in the country's largest plaza, Simón Bolívar Park.

The revival was launched in 2006 by Pastors Ricardo and Patricia Rodriguez who had a heartfelt need to create the largest gathering in Bogota for a time of worship and prayer. Since then, the city which boasts a population of 8 million, has seen close to one million individuals gather during the last weekend of each year.

"Our pastors have the vision that one day Bogotá will be called the 'City of God,'" said Guzman. "Years ago, the Lord showed them a map of Colombia, it was dry and broken. But then, showers of rain made it blossom and prosper. This is the revival that we are experiencing. Every person in Bogotá, Colombia, and the world needs to know what is happening here because it is for them too."

The Rodriguezes founded Worldwide Revival Center in 1990. Now their South American-based congregation is comprised of nearly 40,000 members with additional locations in Argentina and New York City.
