Released for the PC back on Nov. 1, 2016, "Owlboy" features a young mute protagonist owl named Otus in a sprawling 2D Metroid-style world. As Otus, the player is capable of flying and carrying objects during flight that he can use to throw at enemies.

As the game progresses, meets a number of charming companions to aid him in his journey. Each companion has their own weapon with exclusive properties granting him additional skills or access to new areas, even helping him in aerial combat.

The game has been noted for its extremely long development cycle having been in development since 2007. The inspiration for the game came from several sources but most from creator Simon Stafsnes Andersen's penchant for Nintendo games.

Its release date was announced during PAX 2016 primarily for Microsoft Windows-based personal computers. However, it was not until the release of the Nintendo Switch back in that a console release was finally put in the works.

The game will be another indie title in the nearly endless stream of titles making their way to the hybrid console, which, according to Nintendo is about to surpass the Wii U's lifetime sales.

"Owlboy" is set to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on February 2018.
