Pebble's Time Round: Thinnest and lightest smartwatch in the world

Pebble has unveiled the thinnest and lightest smartwatch in the world in the form of the new Time Round, which has a circular watchface.

Today, Pebble has revealed its newest addition to its lineup of smartwatches, the Pebble Time Round, which costs $249. The new round-faced watch is thinner and lighter compared to its predecessors Time and Time Steel, and comes in 14-millimeter and 20-millimeter sizes, according to Engadget.

The Time Round is Pebble's thinnest and lightest smartwatch to date and is the company's most elegant smartwatch so far, especially because it looks like a normal watch. It measures 7.5 millimeters in chassis thickness, 38.5 millimeters in diameter, and 14 millimeters/20 millimeters in strap length. The device boasts of smooth beveled edges, which provide a more comfortable fit, and is made of very lightweight materials, Life Hacker reports.

Pebble chief Eric Migicovsky mentioned that Time Round was designed to also cater to female and other customers with smaller wrists, unlike most smartwatches in the market, the report adds.

Pebble's newest smartwatch features an all-metal casing in black, silver, and rose-gold variants. The Time Round boasts of a thicker black or white bezel around the 1.25-inch display. Customers can choose to have the white bezel with five-minute markers, and they can also opt to have the black one with three-hour markers.

Unfortunately, the Time Round's sleeker design has sacrificed its battery life. Compared to the Time Steel, which lasts up to 10 days, the Time Round will last only two days. But Migicovsky already has an answer to that issue. The company has created a Quick Charge solution that allows users to have 24 hours of usage with just 15 minutes of charging time — a first for a Pebble smartwatch.

"We recognize that it's less than the Pebble Time… We want to make sure this is a watch you can wear 24-7 if you want it," Engadget quotes Migicovsky. "So before you go shower in the morning [for example], you can just charge it quickly as you get ready for the day."

Another issue that has cropped up is the Time Round's water-resistant feature. While users can take the Time and Time Steel for a swim, they cannot do the same with the latest Pebble watch. It can take the occasional rain and shower, but users have to take it off when going for a swim.

The Pebble Time Round comes with a leather band for the retail price of $249, but customers who want it with a metal bracelet will have to add another $50. The new Pebble smartwatch is available for pre-order from Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, with shipping to begin in November.
