"Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" Dev Eyeing Single Player After Game Passes 1.5 Million Concurrent Players

It seems that there's no stopping "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" as it breaks record after record some of which were set by the game itself while in the Early Access. Now, Bluehole is planning to diversify its offerings to its player base outside of the Battle Royale mode that made it so popular.

Over the weekend, PUBG reached a whopping 1,523,179 concurrent players on Steam. This has surpassed the game's previously set record which is achieved by beating the record of 1.29 million concurrent players held by Valve's own Dota 2. The two games are also the only games in the history of Steam that were able to pass the 1 million player mark.

The huge upsurge in concurrent players can be attributed primarily to the game's unstoppable momentum in sales. The most recent press release placed the number of sold copies to 10 million, and that was taken just a few weeks ago. Now, SteamSpy reveals that the game has passed 12 million copies sold, a full 2 million copies in less than a month, now if that isn't a benchmark for success, nothing is.

So what do the developers plan to do with its player base? To answer that question, Brendan "Player Unknown" Greene recently hosted a Reddit AMA where he revealed his own plans for "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds."

"I would love to add a single-player campaign to the game," he said. "I think the island we have could be a great location for an interesting story, but unfortunately we just don't have the time or the resources for this at the moment!"

This lack of resources is certainly understandable given that Bluehole currently has its hands full with the continued support of the PC edition and the upcoming Xbox One version. Hopefully, Greene and his team can accomplish their future plans for the game which only seems to be growing more popular with each passing day.

"Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" is currently available for Windows PC via Steam.
