Pokemon X and Y Becomes Fastest Selling Nintendo Game to Reach One Million Units Sold

Nintendo has officially named Pokemon X and Y as their fastest title to ever reach one million units sold. The company stated that the game hit the million mark in one day, and as of right now stands at two million sold in the U.S. alone.

The previous record to a million was Mario Kart 7, which took almost a month to reach the mark. ScreenCrush reported that X and Y is the ninth Pokemon game to sell a million units in a month. The ratio for 3DS owners and X and Y owners is one in every five, an impressive feat for the franchise.

Other impressive numbers include a 135 percent increase in 3DS consoles sold in the four weeks after the game was released. See Nintendo's info-graphic about Pokemon through the years and their amazing sales here.

Pokemon has been successful regardless of what Nintendo console it has appeared on, although their moneymaker is with the handhelds whether it be Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, DS, or 3DS, it has been a smash hit.

This game brought a change to one of the most popular series' of all time by adding a new feature called "Mega Evolutions."

In the game's universe, players capture these Pokémon to train and battle against other opponents. In an RPG style of play, the stronger your Pokémon gets, the more it will level up. Once one of these creatures reaches a certain level, they evolve into a stronger form of themselves. Some Pokémon, however, require a certain stone or scenario to make them transform. In X and Y certain Pokémon use a Mega Stone. These new mega evolved Pokémon are much stronger in battle, although it is unknown how much more and in what ways.

Pokemon was released on October 12 worldwide.
