Prince George Birthday Celebration Plans Revealed

Prince George will celebrate his first birthday with family and friends in a low-key affair at Kensington Palace. The future heir to the throne is already walking, and thrilled the public with his new official birthday photo.

The party is expected to be an indoor tea party that "may extend to the garden if the weather remains glorious," a palace spokesman told Us Weekly. "The family is marking it privately with close family and friends at Kensington Palace."

In addition to his parents, Prince George will be joined by Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry, Carole and Michael Middleton, and Pippa Middleton. Unfortunately, Prince Charles and Camilla will not be able to attend because they are performing royal duties in Scotland. Kate and William specifically requested a low-key event to keep George from getting too spoiled, as is their parenting trend.

"George will be getting clothes and wooden toys from mum and dad for his birthday," a separate source told Us. "William and Kate don't want to go overboard. He has been given so many gifts over the months and there's only so much space to store them."

As far as the public celebration goes, though, Buckingham Palace will host an exhibition entitled Royal Childhood, which will feature a collection of toys and outfits of British royal children from the past 250 years. Prince George's christening present from President Barack Obama will be featured among the many relics.

The birthday boy has already caused a stir with his latest photograph, taken by Press Association staff member John Stillwell. Prince George is seen walking by himself while the family visited the "Sensational Butterflies" exhibition at the Natural History Museum earlier this month.

"He was very lively, very confident and very sure of himself. He's a very determined young boy. And who does he look like? I'd have to say his dad, William," Stillwell told Us Weekly.

The heir will officially turn one on Tuesday, July 22.
