Prince William and Kate Middleton Uncovered in Documentary

Prince William and Kate Middleton are the inspiration behind a documentary that will air Tuesday night, detailing the modernization of the royal monarchy at the hands of the newlyweds.

The hour-long documentary, titled “William and Kate: Inside the Royal Marriage,” will detail the royal couple’s first sixth months of marriage. With an insider’s perspective on the royal family’s new union over the couple’s past six months of marriage.

The royal palace gave permission to documentarian Matt Drury to executive produce the project with the help of photographer Chris Jackson and host Natalie Morales. The team interviewed close friends of Prince William of Wales and the Duchess of Cambridge, while documenting their modern approach to ruling their kingdom.

Drury spoke about the care taken in interviewing the friends of the royal family.

"The line no one really crosses amongst their friends is revealing private, intimate details of their lives (such as Kate's dieting habits),” Drury said in a USA Today report. “But they are aware they have to give something of themselves because they are in public roles. They know they have to have a presence in the media so they chose people they trusted (to make the film)."

However, the executive producer of the documentary explained that the work would focus on the changes the twosome are making in their royal palace.

“We’ve tried to look at how they’ve approached the first six months of their marriage, how they’ve moved the monarchy in a new direction while trying to cling to a normal life with some semblance of privacy,” said Drury in a New York Daily News report.

Drury said that the pair has managed to bring global appeal to the royal palace by drawing American attention to their lives.

“There’s considerable enthusiasm about William and Kate [in the UK],” says Drury. “But in America, it's really at a fever pitch, with Catherine as a fashion icon and a role model.”

The documentarian also spoke about the couple’s modern approach to dealing with the public, which is detailed in the documentary.

"We try to set in context the traditional roles of previous royals -- whenever they tried to be informal on public tours they always looked uncomfortable, it always looked wrong," Drury said. "But with (Will and Kate) it seems to come naturally to them. He's a modern prince, he's pretty relaxed, they embrace Twitter and all the modern media.”

The documentary will air on NBC Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
