Quiz: How Christian Are You?

How Christian are you?

A new quiz by the non-profit group, Changing the Face of Christianity, offers to answer that question. The Texas-based group scores participants after they answer 10 multiple choice questions online. Quiz takers are ranked: far from Christ, worldly Christian, good Christian, or spiritually mature Christian.

"This score or ‘Christianity Index’ is not intended to pass judgment on anyone,” clarified Changing the Face of Christianity founder R. Brad White, a former atheist turned devout Christian. “Instead, self-proclaiming Christians are encouraged to use it as a gauge of how well they reflect Jesus Christ both internally and externally.”

Questions do not test Bible knowledge or theological understanding, but rather compare how well self-identified Christians are measuring up to the Bible’s teachings as modeled by Jesus Christ.

“We're testing how the Christian responds in very practical and real-world scenarios," noted White.

Participants are asked questions about how they react when someone cuts them off in traffic and how they have changed after accepting Jesus Christ as their savior.

“The results of the Christianity Quiz can be eye opening, even for long-time Christians,” asserted White. “Just going to church doesn’t make us good, mature, transformed Christians. Jesus was a lover of people. How well do you love others?

“When our day to day lives are compared to the model set by Jesus Christ, it tends to shatter any sense of pride about how far we’ve grown as Christians. I hope it convicts a great many Christians to not just say they are Christian but to sincerely and authentically be Christian.”

Changing the Face of Christianity is the same group behind January’s launch of the My Confession campaign. The campaign encourages Christians to publicly confess their failings, such as hypocrisy or intolerance, by leaving notes in public places like the office restroom mirror or at the gas station pump. Once the secret confession mission is done, the campaign asks participants to take a photo of the message and post it on the My Confession website.

In 2010, White created Changing the Face of Christianity as a direct response to non-believers who believe all Christians are intolerant, judgmental, hypocritical and homophobic. The former atheist hopes his organization can help reverse the negative stereotypes of Christianity and prevent younger Christians from fueling the negative images of the faith.

According to a 2008 LifeWay Research survey, 72 percent of unchurched Americans believe the church is full of hypocrites.

The group also offers a Bible study to help Christians struggling with hypocrisy, intolerance, homophobia, and being judgmental.

"There are great organizations out there trying to win people to Christ, and we support them. However, our focus is on ensuring existing and new Christians are getting back to basics (loving others), identifying our failings and where we are falling short, and working toward Christian maturity,” explained White.

"We pray that God uses our Christianity Quiz as a catalyst and motivator of positive change and growth within our Christian faith."
