Rand Paul's Son Arrested for Underage Drinking at NC Airport

William Hilton Paul, son of U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), was arrested Saturday morning at North Carolina's Charlotte Douglas International Airport and charged with three misdemeanor offenses relating to underage drinking.

"Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this," read a statement released late Sunday by Moira Bagley, Paul's communications director.

Paul, 19, was reportedly arrested following a U.S. Airways flight from Kentucky to North Carolina, and was charged with three misdemeanor offenses of disorderly conduct in an airport, being intoxicated and disruptive, and underage consumption, according to CNN.

As Lt. Blake Hollar of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told ABC News, Paul "was possibly served alcohol on the flight" as he was intoxicated upon arrival at the Charlotte airport.

Paul reportedly identified himself as the son of Sen. Rand Paul, who is the son of Ron Paul, who ran in 2012 for the GOP presidential ticket under the platform of libertarian conservatism.

Sen. Paul was recently appointed to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and has reportedly expressed his interest to run for president in 2016.

The younger Paul was released from Mecklenburg County Jail Saturday after posting a $750 bond, and will reportedly appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
