Republican rivals react to Trump's indictment: 'No one is above the law'
Mike Pence
Former Vice President Mike Pence, who announced his presidential bid this week and served alongside Trump for four years, reacted to the indictment of his former boss in an interview with talk radio host Hugh Hewitt Friday.
"I'm deeply troubled to see … this indictment move forward," he said.
At the same time, Pence maintained that "no one is above the law."
Like DeSantis, Pence insisted that "when I become president, I'm going to clean house at the highest levels of the Justice Department," adding, "we're going to appoint men and women of integrity at every level that will restore the public confidence of the American people in equal justice under the law."
Pence called on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to "appear before the American people, lay out all the facts that they know, all the relevant law in this case and answer questions until every question is answered." He stressed that "this is a sad day for America," contending that "no one would welcome this moment."
