Rick Warren-Endorsed Movie 'The Way' Makes Waves With Critics
The Rick Warren-endorsed film “The Way” hit theaters Friday and has earned positive reactions from critics and viewers alike.
Martin Sheen takes a journey of faith in the inspirational story about family, life and friends. Portraying Tom Avery, Sheen travels overseas to collect the body of his estranged son who died traveling the “Camino de Santiago” trail from France to Spain.
Avery decides to walk the Christian pilgrimage route, and is joined by his surviving son, played by Sheen’s own son Emilio Estevez, who also directed the film.

The men’s journey brings to light truths about themselves, including the lesson, “You don’t choose a life, you live one.”
The online movie guide Rotten Tomatoes – www.rottentomatoes.com – gave “The Way” an overall score of 79 percent “fresh tomatoes,” which is a positive review. The average rating this weekend was 6.3 out of a possible score of 10.
“There’s nothing startlingly original about Estevez’s screenplay, yet it has a modesty you seldom see when Hollywood tackles spiritual subjects,” wrote Lou of the New York Post, on the Rotten Tomatoes site.
Ann, of The Washington Post, wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “A sensuous, expansive hymn to travel and transformation in a movie that honors earthly pleasures as readily as it contemplates higher things.”
Twitter user Robyn saw “The Way” and took to the social media site to express her thoughts: “I still think Martin Sheen should run for Irish President. The film was beyond awesome.”
Charlie Sheen, one of Martin Sheen’s sons, said on Twitter: “THE WAY my Bro @EmilioTheWay directs our dad Martin Sheen in an EPIC FILM! Please go see it… I love this film!”
Rick Warren said “The Way” was a “gentle, but powerful masterpiece.”
Emilio Estevez explained the film was “about being human.” The soundtrack includes music by James Taylor and Alanis Morissette, and is available on iTunes.
