Rick Warren Endorses New Movie 'The Way' – Hits Theaters Today
Martin Sheen takes a journey of faith in the inspirational film “The Way,” which opened in theaters everywhere Friday.
Endorsed by Pastor Rick Warren, the “gentle, but powerful masterpiece” tells an inspirational story about life, family and friends.
Starring Sheen, the film follows a father’s travels overseas to collect the body of his estranged son who died traveling the “Camino de Santiago” trail from France to Spain.

The Christian pilgrimage route attracts Sheen’s character, Tom Avery, who decides to travel it while scattering his son’s ashes along the way.
Avery’s journey brings to light truths about himself and his lost son, played by Sheen’s own son Emilio Estevez, who also directed the film.
In real life, Sheen plays the role of a father to another rambunctious son, Charlie. Charlie Sheen had a very public meltdown recently and was fired from his acting position on NBC’s “Two and a Half Men.”
Speaking to The Daily Beast, Sheen and Estevez discussed the origins of “The Way.”
“It’s about being human. It’s less about religion and faith and more about spirituality and living life,” said Estevez. “I’ve been reading things online accusing us of being too religious and it’s kind of offensive.”
When asked if Charlie is doing better now, Sheen said, “He is, very much so.”
Estevez added of his brother, “He came to our screening in California a couple of weeks ago and surprised us on the red carpet. It was very lovely to see him.”
The trailer for the film includes the poignant line, “You don’t choose a life, you live one,” and reveals difficult spiritual revelations as the father and son heal together.
The soundtrack to “The Way” features artists James Taylor, Tyler Bates, David Gray and Alanis Morissette, among others, and is available on iTunes.
