Robert Griffin III Sets New Record in 40-Yard Dash at NFL Combine (VIDEO)
Heisman Trophy winner, Robert Griffin is turning heads at this year's NFL scouting combine. Yesterday, he ran the 40-yard dash faster than any quarterback since Michael Vick in 2001.
According to The Associated Press, Griffin's initial unofficial time, based on the average of two 40-yard dashes, was 4.38 seconds. Later on the official time was recorded as 4.41 seconds, still faster than any other quarterback at the combine this year.
However, there was some discrepancy as to just how fast Griffin ran, and he told ESPN that his representatives were looking into clarifying his times. Griffin went on to tell ESPN, "I was told on the field that it was 4.35 officially. They told me it was faster than what the screen had posted," Griffin said. "If that happens to be the right time, that's nothing to be mad about, 4.41 is a great time. But you want to make sure the right time is put up there." Whether his time was 4.35 or 4.41, he's still the faster quarterback at the combine.
Griffin was predicted to be the number two pick coming out of the combine, but perhaps his stellar performance is setting him ahead of the competition. The expected first pick, Andrew Luck's unofficial time was 4.59 and that was later officially recorded as 4.69. Luck was the second fastest quarterback at the combine, but still .28 seconds behind Griffin. While Luck was just a fraction of a second slower than Griffin, a fraction of a second can make a huge difference on an NFL field.
Robert Griffin III has enjoyed quite a bit of success in college career. Along with taking home the Heisman Trophy, "RG3" led Baylor to 10 wins this season. He holds Baylor's career passing record with 10,366 yards and 78 touchdowns.
Griffin is a fan favorite as well. He is set to be on the cover of EA Sports' NCAA Football 13, which will hit video game store shelves July 10.
