Samsung Announces Launch of GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus

Samsung appears determined to bolster its line of technology products, if the company's new GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus tablet is any indication.

"Samsung pioneered the seven-inch tablet market with the launch of the GALAXY Tab, marking an innovation milestone in the mobile industry. Building on the success of the GALAXY Tab, we’re now delighted to introduce the GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus reloaded," the company said Friday in a statement on its website.

The item is promoted as having "enhanced portability, productivity and a richer multimedia experience" said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business. He added, "GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus is for those who want to stay productive and in touch with work, friends and content anytime, anywhere."

The Android 3.2 Honeycomb-based tablet, comes with a 7-inch display and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, in addition to 802.11m wireless support. The GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus does pack power and productivity into a chic lightweight design.

GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus features Social Hub, Readers Hub and Music Hub services. Social Hub aggregates the user’s contacts, calendar and email along with instant messaging and social networking connections all within one easy-to-use interface. Readers Hub provides e-reading content such as e-books, newspapers and magazines. Music Hub enables access to over 13 million songs even when out and about.

As CNET has noted, Samsung’s announcement comes just days after Amazon unveiled its own, and highly anticipated, entrant in the table market.

When the 7.0 Plus is finally released, there is no telling how it will face the patent troubles Samsung’s other tablets have run into, from Australia to Europe. Samsung and Apple have been locked in a bitter patent battle that has seen the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 held up in Australia and blocked from sale in Germany.

Samsung said it will start rolling out the tablet to Indonesia and Austria at the end of October, followed by a gradual launch across Asia, the U.S., Europe, and elsewhere around the world.
