Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) Renders Surfaced Before Launch; Specs Include 4.5-Inch Display, 5MP Camera, 1 GB of RAM

Amidst the release of flagship and premium devices, Samsung quietly launched a budget-friendly device to the tech market in Dubai. It's not a new model though because it's an upgraded version of the Samsung Galaxy J1 that was released last year in January.

According to Gadgets 360, the Galaxy J1's apparent successor is called the Galaxy J1 (2016). It has been a regular in the rumor mill and leaked images of it had already surfaced by the end of last year. Just recently, another one hit the web before the launch and it appeared to be a full-on press render. The image came from a tweet by @evleaks which is handled by veteran leaker Evan Blass and it showed the Galaxy J1 (2016) in Gold and White color variants.

Now that the device has been launched, its specs are also becoming known. Android Authority detailed that the specs of the handset include a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It's noted to be slightly larger than the 4.3-inch old Galaxy J1 version, although its screen size is still small compared to today's standard. The resolution is also the same with the old one.

As a low-end smartphone, the device is said to be equipped with a quad-core Exynos 3475 processor with Mali T-720 graphics. The chipset is paired with 1 GB of RAM and runs with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It has a 2,050 mAh battery.

According to another report from Android Authority, the design of the smartphone is actually very similar to the original one. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) has 8 GB of storage and a 5-megapixel rear camera. The front of the device has a 2-megapixel camera.

Since the 2015 version came out in January, it was also expected that the Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) would come out around the same time. The device is priced at AED 499 or roughly $135.
