Samsung Galaxy Nexus Release Date: A Family History of Google Smartphones, Part 1

Since 2010, Google has collaborated with manufacturers, Samsung and HTC to create a number of closely related smartphones.

These phones include: the HTC Nexus One, the Google Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy S, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

According to industry experts, these smartphones have not only garnered popularity and commercial success, but each predecessor has aided the notoriety of its successor.

Here is a rundown of the history of this family of smartphones.

HTC Nexus One

Released in January 2010, the Nexus One was the first of its series and was Google's flagship phone of its time.

It featured a 1 GHz Scorpion processor, 3.7-inch AMOLED display, 5.0 megapixel camera with 2X digital zoom, Android 2.1, Eclair, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and 512MB RAM of internal memory.

The Nexus One was discontinued in June 2010 due to low online sales, but remains available through other retail channels.

Google Nexus S

Released in December 2010, the Nexus S succeeded the Nexus One and is the second Google collaboration with a smartphone manufacturer (Samsung).

It features a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display, 5.0 megapixel camera, Android 2.3, Gingerbread, Wi-Fi, GSM, HSDPA and 16GB of internal memory.

The Nexus S was the first smartphone to run the Gingerbread OS.

It remains available or online and in-store retail purchase worldwide.

Its most recent successor is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus; however, it is closely related to the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S2.
