Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Download on Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Available via Custom ROM

Samsung's first phablet Galaxy Note GT-N7000 can now be updatded with Android 5.0 Lollipop via ROM.

XDA Developer developed a custom ROM CyanogenMod CM12 series NightOwl version. Android developers with usernames TouchLeclouds and DroidTwe4kz also contributed to the custom ROM.

The 259.1MB custom ROM is based on the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) 5.0.1 Lollipop. This is an experimental ROM so some bugs are not yet fixed.

Before updating the device, users must check the model of their phone by clicking Settings and choosing About Phone. The update is strictly for Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and can harm other models if not checked properly.

PREPARATION

The user must have a complete backup through a CWM or TWRP of the entire phone's data before getting started. Begin by enabling the USB debugging mode by clicking Settings and choosing Developer Options.

Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 should be factory unlocked and bootloader should also be unlocked. The device must be Rooted and the battery should at least be 80 percent to install the custom ROM.

The process is very technical and may require a person with manual software installation skills. The steps provide below are unofficial and the result will depend on the device and user's capabilities.

PROCEDURE

Step 1. The user must download CyanogenMod 12 Android 5.0 ROM and Google Apps.

Step 2. Attach the Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 with the PC using USB data cable and mount the USB Mass Storage.

Step 3. Transfer CM12 Android 5.0 ROM .zip file to the root folder of the microSD card on the device.

Step 4. The user must disconnect the Galaxy Note N7000 from the PC and turn it off to boot into Recovery Mode. During the CWM Recovery mode, perform a full data wipe task by clicking Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Use the Volume keys to navigate between options and Power button to select an option in the Recovery Mode.

Step 5. Perform Wipe Cache Partition and wait for the process to be finished. After that the user must go to Advanced and select Wipe Dalvik Cache to perform Wipe Dalvik Cache.

Step 6. Proceed to main recovery menu and select Install Zip from SD card. Click on Choose Zip from SD card and select the CM12 ROM .zip. On the next sreen, just confirm the ROM installation process.

Step 7. Repeat the steps to install Google Apps.

Step 8 . After the installation of ROM and Gapps is completed, go to "+++++Go Back+++++" and choose Reboot System Now in the Recovery menu.

Step 9. Phone reboot will start and the first one may take five minutes.

Once reboot is done, the user has successfully updated the Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop via CM12 custom ROM.
