A number of smartphones are currently battling it out for the accolade of being the most desirable phone in the highly competitive market, and a recent poll has put the Samsung Galaxy S2 at the top of the list.

TechRadar polled its readers on their opinion for the best smartphone. Of the 10 phones considered, the Samsung Galaxy S2 was voted number one at 47 percent.

Dubbed the "iPhone Killer," the Galaxy S2 beat out the Apple iPhone 4, which ranked second at 23 percent. Coming in third is the HTC Sensation with 11 percent.

After the top three, favorable numbers sharply drop. The SE Xperia Arc and BlackBerry Bold 9900 rank fourth and fifth with four percent of the vote.

The HTC Desire S and the Google Nexus S rank sixth and seventh with two percent.

The BlackBerry Torch 9810, LG Optimus 7 and Motorola Atrix rank eight, ninth and tenth with one percent each.

With the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S2 to the U.S. and the impending release of the iPhone 5, which is considered to be the next top contender in the smartphone market, there has been much talk about the equality of the phones, pitted against each other and compared to other handsets.

Many sources have named such phones at the Motorola Droid Bionic as formidable opponents against both the Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 5.

The Droid Bionic has been advertised as Verizon Wireless' answer to both smartphones, however it is notably not on the list of most desirable handsets.

However, it seems that the battle between the two top contenders will always be up for debate.

Another survey conducted by UBS Investment Research found that 89 percent of iPhone users said that they will continue go buy Apple handsets in the future, while 55 percent of overall Android users say that they will continue to buy Android handsets in the future.
